Give Us A King
"Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”" 1 Samuel 8:19-20
The passage in 1 Samuel 8 is an interesting account of God's people demanding that they have a king to rule over them, to fight for them, and ultimatley so that they could be like all the other nations. They already had all of this in God if they would have only walked faithfully, but it wasn't enough. Even after Samuel warned them how a king would take from them the best of all they had, and they would would be sorry in the end, their minds were simply set on being like everyone around them.
It can be hard as God's people to be different in the things we say, the things we do, and any other aspect of our life that demands distinction. So the question that each Christian needs to consider is if there are things in your life that you have allowed compromise with the world?
Join us as discuss the folly of conforming to the world when in reality, we should instead see ourselves as pilgrims and sojourners.
