Where Is God

"Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”" Judges 6:13
 
It's certainly not uncommon when tragedy strikes, or even when one is going through suffering in their life to ask questions as Gideon did about where God is as you go through difficult times. We might ask why God would allow me to suffer, and why He hasn't done something to stop it from happening? I read about all the miraculous things God has done in the past to help people, so where is my miracle when I need it?
